Dental Hygiene

Prevention is the key to preventing many dental problems. Here at Fellows Dental practice we place a strong emphasis on prevention and encourage patients to attend for regular hygiene visits helping to achieve and maintain a healthy mouth.

Good dental hygiene is the most important element in preventing dental problems. Whilst professional cleaning is important, the key is to establish an excellent home regime. We can help you to do this and to maintain your gums and teeth.

At a hygiene appointment your dentist will:

  • Offer preventative advice to help keep your gums and mouth healthy.
  • Remove any soft plaque and calculus.
  • Offer appropriate diet advice.

An important aspect of a dental hygiene visit is to show you how to look after your teeth so they remain free from plaque. You will be advised on the best brushing technique and given tips on flossing and using interdental brushes.

We will recommend a suitable recall interval depending on your clinical needs. It can range from anywhere between 3 to 12 months. If you have had periodontal disease it is recommend to have a more frequent recall interval in order that appropriate hygiene maintenance can be undertaken to help keep your mouth healthy.

Dental hygiene at the dental practice also forms part of treating gum disease and bad breath. In addition to this, if you have a bridge, denture, orthodontic appliance or a dental implant you will have specific hygiene needs that the dentist will be able to assist you with.

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.
